Documenting the unpredictable journeys and the people who make the world feel like home.

The Fiji Surprise

A spontaneous 50th birthday adventure to Fiji, organized by my husband. This is the story of a slow, unpredictable journey where the destination was just a bonus.

“The Boemeltrein is a slow train that stops everywhere. It represents the unpredictable beauty of the journey and the idea that sometimes, the destination is just a suggestion.”

The Boemeltrein Philosophy

At 50, I’ve realized that life—and travel—should not be a race to the finish line. For me, it is more like a boemeltrein: a journey that invites you to slow down, look around and enjoy the unexpected stops along the way.

After years of working, taking care of my family, juggling several jobs and trying to keep everyone and everything on track, I somehow lost myself in the rush.

So now, I’m choosing to travel differently.

I still like a good plan—believe me, the control freak in me is not disappearing overnight—but I no longer want every journey to feel like another list of boxes to check. I want time to wander through a small Mexican pueblo, sit a little longer over lunch, talk to the people who live there and discover the places that were never mentioned in the original itinerary.

The Boemeltrein Philosophy is about thoughtful travel with room to breathe. It means planning the important details while leaving space for laughter, curiosity and the occasional unexpected detour.

Fiji is where this philosophy begins for me. But in time, I hope to help others create journeys that feel just as personal—not simply travelling from one attraction to the next, but genuinely experiencing where they are.

Because the best journeys are not always the fastest or the most perfectly planned.

Sometimes, you just need to embrace the detour.
